Contributions are welcome from people who live, have lived, study, work or have worked in Cumbria or have an interest in the culture, history and attractions of, or are researching something or other about Cumbria or the surrounding area or plan to visit the county.


Posting adverts to the newsgroup is strictly forbidden, with the following exception:
Cumbrian-based charities and voluntary organizations may post a pointer to their website together with a short message of no more than six lines publicising their event or appeal. This message may not be posted more than once every three months.


Messages posted to this newsgroup must not be cross-posted to more than a TOTAL of four uk.local.* newsgroups; these may be geographically adjacent or overlapping, or connected by the subject of the post (e.g. "moving house from Carmarthen to Carlisle").


All posts must be made in plain text; HTML and other types of formatted text are forbidden. Posting URLs of relevant Internet sites, where appropriate, is encouraged.

With the explicit exception of PGP signatures, all encoded binaries are forbidden. Forbidden binaries include, but are not limited to: pictures, sounds, word processor documents, executable programs and "business cards". Anyone posting advertisements, binaries or other material contrary to this charter may be reported to their ISP or postmaster without further warning after their first offence.
