(Not Moderated)
- A newsgroup for discussion of all aspects of Humanism in the UK, with
particular reference to secular Humanism.
In this context, Humanism is a life-stance which holds that:
- this world and this life are all we have (corollary: there is no God,
or supernatural Divinity),
- we should try to live full and happy lives, and, as part of this, make
it easier for other people to do the same.
- all situations and people deserve to be judged on their merits by
standards of reason and humanity.
- individuality is important, but social co-operation and the acceptance
of human emotions are equally important.
- Advertisements for goods, publications, and services, as well as
announcements of events, directly relevant to Humanism in the UK are
permitted, provided they are of fifty lines or fewer and posted no more
than once every month. The subject line should begin "
ADVERT:
", or
"ANNOUNCEMENT:
" (as appropriate). All other advertising is forbidden.
- Encoded binaries (e.g. pictures, compressed files, etc.) are
forbidden. Such material belongs on a web or FTP site to which a pointer
may be posted. Cryptographic signatures (e.g. PGP) may be used where
authentication is important and should be as short as possible.
- Posts must be readable as plain text. HTML, RTF and similarly
formatted messages are prohibited. To see how to make your newsreader
comply with this, read %lt;http://www.usenet.org.uk/ukpost.html>.
