This group is for the discussion of matters relevant to the County of Kent. This may include general local chatter, discussion of local issues and the history of the county. Postings relevant to life in Kent are most welcome.

For the purposes of this group Kent is defined as the County of Kent within the traditional recognized land borders with East Sussex, Surrey and Greater London and its coastal waters. These traditional borders are defined as the borders of the County before the local government border changes of the late 1990's.

On-topic contributions would be welcome from all those who live and work in Kent (including those who have now moved away) or others who wish to discuss or seek information about the County and its history.

Postings concerning the rest of the world - including other Counties within the United Kingdom which do not involve the County of Kent are not welcome.

It is recognized and appreciated that historically parts of what are now in Greater London were formerly within the County of Kent - discussion of historical matters regarding these areas would be acceptable in context. Postings about current affairs within these areas are subject to the restictions in the previous paragraph. uk.local.london may be a better forum for these postings.

This group is intended to provide a friendly discussion forum for all internet users who want to discuss Kentish matters. Mutual respect and netiquette will be appreciated in this group.

This group is intended to be a discussion forum suitable for persons of all ages. Some postings may be unsuitable for children, and supervision of children using this group is reccomended. There are other newsgroups for overtly sexual postings, where a more suitable audience can be found.

Cross-Posting

Messages posted to this newsgroup must not be cross-posted to more than a TOTAL of four uk.local.* newsgroups; these may be geographically adjacent or overlapping, or connected by the subject of the post (e.g. "moving house from Birmingham to Maidstone").

Note that the advertising of widely-available goods or services is *not* relevant in this context, and that most uk.local.* groups have restrictions on advertising, or prohibit it. Cross-posted adverts, where allowed, must meet the requirements of the charters of *all* groups involved.

Binaries

With the exception of PGP signatures, binaries (HTML, pictures, vcards, word-processor documents and other attachments) are not welcome in this group. Posters may, however place a pointer to the object if they so desire.

Advertising

This group does not welcome commercial adverts. Non-profit making organisations may post short adverts which are relevant to the topic of this newsgroup described above, providing i) The advert is no more than 20 lines in length, ii) is relevant to the group, iii) only one advert from that organisation is posted each month.

Potential advertisers may consider as an alternative, posting to the uk.adverts.* hierachy, which may also reach a wider audience.

All personal adverts are banned.

Signatures

With the exception of PGP fingerprints, signatures should be no more than 4 lines in length. Signatures must not include pointers to sites containing adult material.
